Why do we build?
Maslow and Gehry each have their reasons.
From the loft to the lofty, our shelters may differ in purpose, but the tools we use to build them are the same.
Form and function may drive us forward, but it’s groundwork, foundations, structure, hard work, and hope in the outcome that drives us upward.
And no wall stands alone; light, scale, material, and time all have their say.
Form and function are abstract without context.
Community and partnership shape our world and define our place in it.
The relationships we build are the shelters of the soul.
So, why do we build?
We build for self-actualization, driven by the desire to become the best we can be.
On this, Maslow and Gehry agree.
